Cookpad

Instana

Instana is a modern cloud-based monitoring solution that has completely automated every aspect of APM.

Founded in 2015 by APM experts that have 50+ years of experience the founders decided that with the change in how applications are now built -- there needed to be a monitoring tool that could help facilitate this. ee every change, every deployment, every container – discovered,
analyzed, and understood in seconds, and automatically identify root cause at any layer of their technology stack to keep their applications
running efficiently and smoothly.

Cookpad

Cookpad is community platform for people to share recipe ideas and cooking tips.

Founded in Japan in 1997 by Aki Sano. Aki decided to focus on cooking because cooking is a behaviour that has the potential to change the world: it affects everything from our health to the environment we live in. So he set up Cookpad.

On average 100 million people around the world use Cookpad every month and over 5 million recipes have been created on their platform.

Cookpad is available in over 70 countries around the world in over 25 languages.

Speakers

TOBIAS BAUMGART

Director E-Commerce Platform, Conrad Electronic SE

Conrads Digital Business Infrastructure

Back in 1998 Conrad launched his first online store as one of the first web pioneers. We made it over the .com hype. Currently we’re at place 11 of all German retail stores. And an important partner for B2B customers. As many retailers we’re now in a transformation from a classical retailer towards a platform which focus on B2B customers. To achieve both transformation and a high demand of scalability in terms of products, integration etc. it’s key to have a framework which can handle all this. This framework consists of organizational and technical approaches and of course of a modular and flexible architecture. In this talk I will tell you the story, share some insights and learnings of our journey and a quick outlook which challenges are in front of us :-)

About me

Tech lead of Conrad's Digital Platform, Responsible for the tech horizontal teams Operations, DataServices, DataScience and PlatformArchitecture which are supporting our main vertical teams.

Oops-Less Operation

Building, deploying and operating application systems for high scale and failure tolerance is the supreme field of software engineering.

While Continuous Integration (CI) and oftentimes also Continuous Delivery (CD) have become a part of commonly used build pipelines, monitoring and observability is still often an afterthought or manually configured.

To keep up with containers being started and stopped for version upgrades, scaling up and down or to mitigate failure situations, monitoring needs to automate all the tasks to react to infrastructure changes and find issues before users being impacted.

People today expect “Oops-Less Operation”, or do you want your bank to be offline?

CEO & Co-Founder, chaosmesh

Chaos Engineering - Inject failures to survive

Customer expectations have changed. Unreliable products don't survive.
Also the complexity in modern and distributed architectures continues to increase. We break down our application into small and maintainable pieces. Using continuous delivery each individual component can be deployed to production at any time. Thanks to cloud providers, we deliver our software fast, continuously and reliably.

But why do we still struggle with failures and errors in production? What can we do about this and ensure the trust and confidence of our customers?

About me
Benjamin Wilms - CEO & Co-Founder at chaosmesh. I destroy things...mostly!

„Ich sehe was, was du nicht...“ - Misinterpreting APM metrics for Security

In IT Security "misinterpretation of all the things" can have a devastating impact on your decicions to secure your business. But what about doing this on purpose? Turn the flaw into an advantage! Let's have a look at metrics, their current interpretation and the best case misinterpretation for security purposes. Seeing things has always been better than getting hit by things. So let's see...

About me:
Always on the run for disruptive technologies. With about 20 years of experience in information technology, Kevin is an incubator for state-of-the-art IT concepts. Well grounded in the financial and banking sectors, Kevin is a driver on continuous security, compliance as well as DevSecOps and agile architectures. In short: Security specialist, Hacker, DevSecOps, Blogger, Think Tank. Nuff said!
